About Acid Reflux and Hiatal Hernia

The most-common symptoms acid reflux or Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are heartburn, regurgitation, and trouble swallowing. A hiatus hernia or hiatal hernia, symptoms include acid reflux, and pain, similar to heartburn, in the chest, and upper stomach.

Sleeping on the left side has been shown to reduce nighttime acid reflux. It's suggested that elevating the head of bed and lowering the feet is an effective therapy as well. The height of the elevation is critical and must be at least 6 to 8 inches (15 to 20 cm) to be at least minimally effective to prevent the backflow of gastric fluids. Some practitioners use higher degrees of incline and claim greater success.
